Justice
Utilising an OS X glass sound effect and being accompanied by contemporary and alternative R&B artist Miguel, track 12, “Saturnine”, off of Justice’s fourth studio album Hyperdrama, hides self-deprecating lyrics behind a deluge of groovy notes and sampled synths such as the Fairlight Stab; ultimately creating a tone familiar to Justice’s debut album † (Cross)’s 9th track, “DVNO”. Saturnine, in its terminology by Merriam-Webster means to be “cold and steady in mood : slow to act or change”. Playing with the meaning, the illusion, orchestrated by the notes, directly serves as a deception of the actual meaning of the song, a concurrent theme of the album as a conceptualization, with many songs playing with this switch-up either sonically or by meaning.
